Storm Sentinel
Tahu, Leader of the Blind Archers
Storm Sentinel
, ed. 3/7 (2025)
She stands at the threshold of chaos—silent, unshaken, precise. Through thunder and rain, her arrows find their mark. A guardian forged in the storm—watching, waiting, protecting what must never fall again.
Revolt 1680/2180 reimagines the Pueblo Revolt of 1680—when the Pueblos of New Mexico united to overthrow Spanish colonial rule—catapulting it 500 years into a dystopian future. In this speculative world, time travelers and interstellar warriors guard ancestral memory across past, present, and future. What began as a way to teach Pueblo history within Ortiz’s own community has evolved into an epic science-fiction saga exploring justice, resistance, and resilience through sculpture, photography, video, and film—where historical figures are reborn as futuristic guardians.
At the heart of this saga stands Tahu, a warrior whose strength terrifies the invaders. Purposefully blinded as punishment, she refuses defeat. Instead, she sharpens her instincts, masters the bow, and forms an army of blind archers—fighters who move by memory, intuition, and ancestral sensing. Once a humble Pueblo girl, Tahu rises as a superhero and a symbol of enduring Pueblo women, whose stories, teachings, and strength have carried culture forward for generations. Her call echoes across time, urging courage, clarity, and self-worth in the face of fear.
“You are no longer blind when you can see through your fear.” — Tahu
